A Worrying Example of Misguided R&D

I don’t know whether to laugh or to cry:

Airbus believes that this ridiculous idea—stacking passengers on top of another—could be used in planes where, “it is very important from an economic point of view to make optimum use of the available space in a passenger cabin.” They have filed a patent application:

Airbus Slaves Patent

Oh wait, the idea is not particularly new:

So, maybe the patent can be rejected based on prior art under pre-AIA 35 U.S.C. 102.

Hi Airbus, aren’t there many other more proper subjects of research for your R&D? I can suggest a few ones.
